Furniture from Pampanga is often portrayed as belonging to the Baroque era — intricate, densely sculpted hardwood pieces. That is no surprise, since carving is a revered art and skill in the province. Creating their own path, a new set of furniture export manufacturers and brands are rediscovering what it is to create contemporary pieces for their clients around the world.
It is wonderful then to see Industria Edition shape its own aesthetic, and still retain the art to the craft of steel furniture. This attention to detail and dramatic silhouettes are evident in their pieces.
A visit to its Pampanga workshop, I saw how each piece was made — from the bending to hammering of metal to its polished finish. One of its founders, Jude Tiotuico, finds inspiration everywhere for the collections, often springing from his whimsical imagination. The company has also collaborated with several designers since it began.
The Industria Edition catalog consolidates its collections in this thick book filled with beautiful photographs, poetry and stories that inspire the collections. In the meantime, you may find my work at the website.
